 YOUTH WORK.

Youth Work Centre

It was the inspired vision of church leaders, when they took over the derelict vine inn in order to turn into a youth centre.
We provide a broad range of constructive activities for young people at risk of social exclusion.
The Vine hosts a Number of re-engaging ‘out of hours’ projects and facilities for young people.

Youth to Youthworker

Part of our ethos is to outreach to the hardest to reach young people,. One of the most effective ways have been, to use the very same young people we work with, as peer mentors to reach the youth. The many of our youth staff have been recruited this way, and aspire to see their peers move on like they have.
With this spirit in mind, the Vine has accommodated two new programmes, which give disaffected youth the opportunity to gain paid work

LinX Extra

The LinX Extra Project is funded by the Neighbourhood Support Fund, It joins together innovative grass roots youth organisations,(First Base Walsall, Alumwell CA, & The Vine) creating a synergy of provision which attract, enthuse and retain excluded young people, into activities which draw them towards the world of work and learning.

It is designed to engage and re -engage young people by using creative extra curricula activities ranging from IT and sports to life skills workshops.

The key target groups of our youth programmes are excluded / pre – excluded pupils, the vulnerable and young homeless.

Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP)
What is Positive Activities for Young People?

The Trust holds the contract for Palfrey/Delves, (one of the most deprived wards in Walsall Ward) iPositive Activities for Young People (PAYP) provides a broad range of constructive activities for 8 to 19-year-olds at risk of social exclusion. It builds on the success of previous school holiday programmes such as the Youth Justice Board’s Splash and Connexions’ Summer Plus.

The programme aims to reduce crime and to ensure that young people return to education, have opportunities to engage in new and constructive activities, and can mix with others from different backgrounds.

This cross-government initiative aims to develop young people’s interests, talents and education, and engage them in community activities so they are less likely to commit crime. Activities based on arts, sport and culture take place both during the school holidays and out of school hours throughout the year.

What are the aims of PAYP?
• Reduce crime, truancy and anti-social behaviour both in the short term and long term
• Re-engage children and young people with education, employment or training, and help them to remain engaged by focusing on those most at risk
• Provide young people with opportunities for personal development, encourage self-discipline, self-respect and self-confidence, and enable them to communicate more effectively with a range of people and work effectively in a team
• Ensure that children are supported as they move from primary to secondary education
• Provide access to quality arts, sports and cultural activities, and allow those with an interest and/or talent in any area to continue after their involvement in the programme
• Bring together young people from different geographical and ethnic communities to help break down prejudice and misunderstanding
• Encourage young people to contribute to their communities through volunteering and active citizenship
Who is it aimed at?

PAYP is targeted specifically at young people not fully engaged in education, as well as those with a low level of academic achievement. Referral agencies include Yots, Connexions and behaviour improvement programmes in schools. Key workers support young people with the greatest needs, encouraging them to participate.
