August 05 saw the beginning of the construction of our new Access Centre. Since October 04 we have been establishing the exciting new projects that will be housed in the new annexe. The VAC reaffirms the innovative social entrepreneurial credentials of the Walsall based Vine Trust.
In tribute to Michael In February 2001, we introduced Michael Dean, to government minister Steven Timms MP. (Pictured above). Michael was one our young people who had successfully progressed from our ‘Second Chances’ programme (to re-engage excluded pupils back into education) Michael came to us firstly, as a regular member of our drop-in facility; and excelled in our recreational activities, where he joined our football team ‘LinX FC’. Through Second Chances we enabled him to continue his studies at Walsall College, where he began to achieve.
Tragically, nine months later, Michael died of a brain haemorrhage.
In memory of Michael we are to build the Vine Access Centre, (hereafter the VAC). It is an exciting, new development, which will build on the success of our re-engagement programmes, guidance and ‘drop-in’ facility.
The VAC will continue to offer a friendly, safe and well-equipped leisure environment but will develop its provision of support, information, advice and guidance.
It will become a Connexions Access Point Centre, a key part of their strategy to engage young people.
We have gained funds from ERDF/NRF, Tudor Trust, and Connexions to build an annexe to our training & youth centre on Lower Hall Lane which is based in a former pub. The converted pub has become an effective, non threatening means to reach ‘hard to reach young people’.

Albion Star Darren Moore has agreed to be part of the civic opening of The VAC
It’s a welcome back to Walsall, having trained with the Saddlers as a schoolboy.
The Centre is built in memory of 16 year old Michael Dean (an avid Football fan), who had successfully progressed from our ‘Second Chances’ programme (to re-engage excluded pupils back into education) but tragically, nine died months later of a brain haemorrhage.Darren’s appearance will be a fitting tribute to Michael’s footballing passion.
