The Vine Trust is an established, Christian ethos based charitable company, that operates as an innovative Social Enterprise, working to support and elevate the lives of ‘hard to reach’ young people (13-25 year olds).
About Us
Since 1989 the Vine has operated from its site in Lower Hall Lane. The location, the look of the Vine, (being a converted pub, on the edge of a deprived area) is a unique and innovative facility, that has proven to be conducive to attracting ‘hard to reach’ young people, and is an effective and non threatening venue for education, work and play.
Our Purpose
We have geared our project to work with the ‘hardest to reach young people’ e.g. school non-attenders, excluded pupils, young people on the edge of the drugs culture etc., with the aim to move them to a better, realistic, circumstance

Treasury Minister Opens The VAC. A new access centre for Walsall’s vulnerable young people, named in memory of a young local man, has been opened by the Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury. The centre at The Vine Trust, Lower Hall Lane, has been named after the late Michael Dean, a young man who had successfully progressed from one of the Vine’s programmes before his untimely death. The new access centre provides a range of first class facilities for young people actively engaged with the Trust’s extensive youth programmes. The Vine is a Christian, social enterprise charity, working with excluded young people providing them with training, qualifications, skills, work experience and a hope for the future. The centre includes lecture rooms, recreational facilities, as well as I.T. and reference resources and adjoins the Vine Restaurant, where the charity began its work in 1989. “We are delighted that the Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms was able to open our new centre,” commented Kevin Davis, Chief Executive of The Vine, “he has taken an active interest in our work and this is his second visit here. These new facilities are very welcome, enabling us to deliver an enhanced level of service to our young people and providing a wonderful resource.” The Vine is seeing young people re-engaged as active and purposeful members of the community and is also engaged in social enterprise activity with local businesses, developing innovative programmes that engage young people. History The Vine Trust Walsall YWCA was set up in 1989, a mammoth effort by individual Christians, and uniquely various denominations in Walsall to convert the notorious old ‘Vine Inn’, into a non-alcoholic youth centre. Miraculously they raised the funds to start this innovative project. Since that time; the charity has seen a gradual expansion in its mission to meet the needs of young people.
