The Vine Trust is an established, Christian ethos based charitable company, that operates as an innovative Social Enterprise, working to support and elevate the lives of ‘hard to reach’ young people (13-25 year olds). About Us Since 1989 the Vine has operated from its site in Lower Hall Lane. The location, the look of the Vine, (being a converted pub, on the edge of a deprived area) is a unique and innovative facility, that has proven to be conducive to attracting ‘hard to reach’ young people, and is an effective and non threatening venue for education, work and play.
Our Purpose
We have geared our project to work with the ‘hardest to reach young people’ e.g. school non-attenders, excluded pupils, young people on the edge of the drugs culture etc., with the aim to move them to a better, realistic, circumstance |

‘Goldmine – A NEW YOUTH CENTRE FORGED OUT THE EMBERS OF THE SHANNONS MILLl.’
‘Goldmine’, an exciting new multi-million pound youth facility, is proposed for Lower Hall Lane, adjacent to the site of the former Shannons Mill.
The ‘state of the art’ centre has been inspired by young people for young people. Alongside social and recreational activities, it will offer work-based learning, ICT opportunities, arts, drama, music and creative media activities.
The scheme is currently being considered by the planning authorities and boasts a unique combination of community, public and private sector support in its creation, development and delivery.
The centre is the vision of the Vine Trust; a youth based charity, which this year celebrates 20 years of supporting the hardest-to-help young people in Walsall.
‘Goldmine will be a place where young people can dig deep, past the debris of their lives, reaching into their own golden potential.’
Kevin Davis, CEO of the Vine Trust.
‘We’ve been after a new youth centre in Walsall town centre for years. I’m so excited about Goldmine…we’ve helped design it!’
‘Alex’, young person.
‘Goldmine offers an exciting development which will extend the provision for young people in Walsall , not only to provide high quality information, advice and guidance but could maximise the opportunities for young people to engage in a range of positive activities’
David Brown, Director -Children and Young people service- Walsall Council.
‘By securing high level commitment from investors, both private and public, the Goldmine proposal is founded on a substantial bedrock of support, all intent on demonstrating a clear resonance with and delivery against the Government’s policies and programmes for sustainable communities and urban renaissance, making sure that the voice of young people is well heard in those conversations.’
Peter Cromar, CEO Walsall Regeneration Company.
‘Our company is proud to be associated with the Goldmine project and wish the Vine every success with their ‘myplace’ funding bid. We are committed to delivering the building for them.’
Dominic Goold, Norton & Proffit.
Goldmine is seeking investment from the Department for Children, Schools and Families through its ‘myplace’ fund and has already attracted support from Tudor Trust and public agencies including Futurebuilders, Advantage West Midlands and the Black Country Consortium. The centre will have industry investment from companies such as Microsoft and Ikea.

History The Vine Trust Walsall YWCA was set up in 1989, a mammoth effort by individual Christians, and uniquely various denominations in Walsall to convert the notorious old ‘Vine Inn’, into a non-alcoholic youth centre. Miraculously they raised the funds to start this innovative project. Since that time; the charity has seen a gradual expansion in its mission to meet the needs of young people.
