SECOND CHANCES - Independant Pupil Referral Unit
| Second Chances is an independent school with a Christian designation. It started as a project designed to reach out to the 14-16 year olds who may have been excluded from school, and could have got more out of it. |
| The Project is run through a Service Level Agreements with SERCO/ Education Walsall. The project consists of courses which are 12 weeks long and designed especially for those that want another go at learning, with loads of support, activities and a free lunch. |
| With ‘Second Chances’ those involved get to learn in small groups about things that are going to be useful to them, it helps them work out what they want to do with their life, and they get a step up into the life of college, and or work. |

• Each beneficiary is presented with a variety of employers sympathetic to the work of the Vine Trust, and the needs of its clients. • The employers range from a variety of small businesses, to larger firms such as Ikea, and F.E. Blakemore.
Positive Activities For Young People
The Vine Trust Walsall currently holds the contract for the Home Office/Connexions ‘Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP)’ a non-term time project to prevent young people engaging in anti-social behaviour.
Connexions and Youth Justice Board through their ‘Keeping Young People Engaged’ programme (KYPE) have identified that there is a gap in provision for 16-17 year olds who are not able to enter mainstream ‘Entry to Employment’ (E2E) programmes because they are not able to meet the basic skills requirement, and or have criminal convictions (KYPE targets young people on ISSP or those on DTO’s) Consequently E2E contractors are less inclined to engage these young people because they will have an impact on their outputs and outcomes. They have also identified that there is a shortage of providers offering the initial assessment needed for this group in the Walsall area (source: YOS). The PREETE is a pre E2E, term time provision that complements PAYP and meets the gap as identified by KYPE, therefore offering a year round programme for the hardest to reach 16/17 year olds, Not in Education Employment or Training. Currently Funded by NRF and ESF Co-financing.
